Fall Classes Begin September 20th!

Classes are filling up quickly for our fall dance session! Here at MCPA, we have dance classes for pre-schoolers, as well as ballet, jazz, tap, and hip hop classes for kids and adults. We have also extended the special pricing offer for our popular Zumba classes – it’s only $40.00 for each 8 week session! That’s only $5 per class, so come join the fun!

If you are looking for professional ballet training, look no further. We offer pre-professional programs for ages 8 and older, by audition only. Students study 3-6 days per week, and some also have the opportunity to train for the Youth America Grand Prix ballet competition.

Tonight is the big show!

Mary Poppins will be presented at the Chesapeake Arts Center, in Brooklyn Park, MD. The show begins at 6:00 pm, and tickets are $18.00. Tickets will be available at the door.

Rehearsals for the June 26th performance of Mary Poppins at Chesapeake Arts Center have begun, and we are so excited for everyone to see the show! It will be another great performance, featuring ALL of the MCPA students – from the youngest Creative Movement dancers to the advanced Ensemble members.

Starpower Talent Competition

Thanks to all of our wonderful dancers and parents who shared their Mother’s Day weekend with us at the Starpower Talent Competition in Woodbridge, VA! Once again, the MCPA dancers made us very proud of all of their performances.

MCPA was awarded the “Judges Choice” award, for the MCPA Ensemble piece titled “Helping Hand”, choreographed by Maeghan McHale. This dance will be featured on theDancersFederation.com in June, and there will be open voting to find the people’s choice award for this season! Please remember to vote as the time draws near. We will send out Facebook and email updates to remind everyone to keep on voting!

MCPA Ensemble Members on stage at the Joyce theater in NYC!

Congratulations to the MCPA Ensemble members, who were recently selected to take the stage as part of “Dancin’ Downtown at the Joyce”, a fundraiser for Dancers Responding to Aids.

A piece by MCPA co-director Shannon Torres, entitled “Mercy”, was selected as one of 20 finalists in this unique choreography competition. The dancers were thrilled to place in the top 5 at the end of the evening, and were so excited to be able to dance on the world famous Joyce Theater stage.

What a wonderful accomplishment for these young dancers!

Move to Inspire

On Sunday, April 25th, the MCPA Ensemble will present “Move to Inspire”, an afternoon of contemporary dance. This performance will feature the award winning MCPA Ensemble, as well as guest artists from area colleges and dance programs. This is an inspiring performace, where local artists meet and take the stage to share their talents. Please join us!

YAGP Dancers

Members of the MCPA Ballet Academy professional training division attended the Youth America Grand Prix international ballet competitions in Rhode Island and Pennsylvania this season. Selected to represent MPCA were:

Pre-competitive Division: Meghan Argentieri, Cami Hanixman, and Taylor Ciampi
Junior Division: Sarah Lapointe, Cassidy Stout, and Miranda Wienecke
Senior Division: Sammie Terzi, Kara Wagner

The MCPA Ensemble also participated in the group competition.

In Philadelphia, Taylor Ciampi placed 2nd in the pre-competitive division, Miranda Wienecke placed 2nd in Junior contemporary & in the Top 12 in Junior Classical, and Sammie Terzi placed in the Top 12 in the Senior Contemporary Division.

The MCPA Ensemble received 1st place in the group competition, as well as the choreography award for their piece titled “The Winner Is”, choreographed my Maeghan McHale.

MCPA’s Artistic Director Shannon Torres was named “Outstanding Teacher”.

In Rhode Island, Meghan Argentieri placed in the Top 12 pre-competitive, and Taylor Ciampi placed 3rd. Sarah Lapointe and Miranda Wienecke placed in the Top 12 Junior contemporary division, and Sammie Terzi placed in the Top 12 Senior contemporary division.

Taylor Ciampi, Miranda Wienecke, and the MCPA Ensemble all moved on the the International Finals in NYC, where they performed with outstanding dancers from all over the world.

We are so proud of the students success in this prestigious competition!
